About Great House Alpacas

The Great House Alpaca Stud was founded in 1995 with an initial purchase of five animals. We were looking for an alternative to raising Highland Cattle when we came across these gentle, beguiling creatures. They instantly won our affection. We then commenced a steep learning curve regarding camelids. 

In the mid 90's there were only 400 alpacas in the UK, which had all originated from UK and Continental zoos and knowledge was scarce. Owners were few and far between, and we pooled our experiences and read all the literature from South America and the US that we could find. Now, ten years later, and after selected purchases from Chile and Peru, and selective breeding, we have a very fine herd in a comprehensive range of colours and genetics.
